Laser hair Removal

At Lumera Skin & Laser Clinic, Rowlands Castle, we offer professional laser hair removal using advanced Diode laser technology to target unwanted hair at the follicle, helping to achieve smoother, longer-lasting results. Suitable for a range of areas and skin types, the treatment works by delivering controlled laser energy to the hair follicle, reducing hair growth over a course of treatments. It can be used on areas including the face, underarms, bikini, legs, arms and back. A personalised consultation allows us to assess your skin and hair type and recommend the most suitable treatment plan for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please email us at info@lumeraskin.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Most people need around 6–8 laser hair removal sessions to achieve significant, long-term hair reduction. Treatments are spaced several weeks apart to target hairs during their active growth phase, as the laser is most effective at this stage. The exact number of sessions will vary depending on your hair type, skin tone, treatment area and individual response to the laser. After completing your initial course, occasional maintenance treatments may be recommended.

Laser hair removal is suitable for most skin types, provided the hair has enough pigment for the laser to target effectively. Our Diode laser can be used safely across a range of skin tones, with the treatment settings adjusted to suit your individual skin type. However, we do not treat very light, blonde, grey, white or red hair, as there may not be enough pigment for the laser to work effectively. A consultation and patch test are required before treatment to assess your skin and hair and ensure the treatment is suitable for you.

Yes, you can have laser hair removal during the summer, provided your skin has not been recently tanned or exposed to excessive sun. We ask clients to avoid sunbathing and tanning before and during their course of treatment and to use a high-factor SPF on exposed areas. If the skin is recently tanned, treatment may need to be postponed until the tan has faded. Your practitioner will assess your skin during your consultation and advise you on the safest approach.

Appointments are typically spaced 4–8 weeks apart, depending on the area being treated and your individual hair growth cycle. This allows enough time for new hairs to enter the active growth phase, when the Diode laser can target them most effectively. The recommended interval may vary throughout your course as hair growth becomes finer and slower.

Laser hair removal requires little to no downtime, so most people can return to their usual activities straight after treatment. It is normal to experience some temporary redness and follicular oedema, where small areas around the hair follicles become slightly raised or swollen. This is a normal response to the laser and usually settles within a few hours, although it can occasionally last up to 24–48 hours.

For the first 24–48 hours, it is best to avoid swimming, hot baths, saunas, steam rooms and strenuous exercise, as these can increase heat and irritation to the treated area. Avoiding direct sun exposure and using a high-factor SPF is also recommended.

Laser hair removal is suitable for most skin types, but treatment may not be suitable if you are pregnant, undergoing cancer treatment, taking photosensitising medication, or have sunburn, recent tanning, burns, wounds, broken skin or an active infection.

Very light, blonde, grey, white or red hair may not respond effectively to laser treatment.

A consultation and patch test are required before treatment to ensure it is safe and suitable for you.
